FurnishHopeDC seeks to help residents of D.C.’s Wards 7 and 8 who lack resources to furnish their homes, and thereby help break a family’s cycle of poverty. We truly believe there is enough furniture in the DMV area for everyone to have a bed to sleep on, a dresser in which to put away one’s clothes..a table to eat at with family, and so any children in the home have a place to do their homework…even a couch so a family might be together and relax in comfort. We just have to figure out how to get it from there to HERE.

Most importantly, we are the only nonprofit that delivers furniture, recognizing that the people who need it most are the most likely not to be able to afford transportation to pick it up.  Right now, FurnishHopeDC is trying to provide that as much as possible, while at the same time keeping good furniture out of landfills!

We are prepared to give a family or an individual—including our senior residents—everything they need to create a safe and comfortable home so that they might more easily move forward with their lives. We collect and distribute gently used basic home furniture, household and kitchen necessities, linens and baby items.

This is all free.

While we always have our eyes out for another space to rent where we can meet with our clients and keep a good amount of our furniture, as well as hold classes for our clients, for the last year we have been operating by doing home visits and keeping all of our furniture supply in 6 Storage Units on Southern Ave.

Recently, we received a grant from Martha’s Table Community Foundation, which is also located in Ward 8, and are now able to meet clients there as well. We hope to resume cleaning classes and parent support groups there as well!

FurnishHopeDC was one of 10 local nonprofits chosen by the community for this two year grant, and comes with expertise and mentorship provided by the Center for Non-Profit Advancement. We are very honored, and humbled
to be chosen.
